Whether a Christian should make "too much" profit depends on what is meant by "too much." The Bible does not condemn profit itself. In fact, it commends wise stewardship, hard work, and successful business. What it condemns are greed, exploitation, dishonesty, and taking advantage of others.

1. Profit is not sinful

God blesses diligence and faithful work.

Making a healthy profit is a legitimate reward for the risks, skills, and investment involved in running a business.

2. Avoid greed

4. Love your neighbour

Practical examples

Buying a product for ₦10,000 and selling it for ₦15,000 because of transport, rent, taxes, marketing, and business risk is generally reasonable.

Buying it for ₦10,000 and selling it for ₦50,000 simply because a customer has no alternative and is in urgent need may be ethically questionable, depending on the circumstances.

If a product is genuinely rare, premium, or expensive to source, a much higher margin can still be fair, provided the customer is not being deceived.

The balance

A Christian businessperson should aim for:

(a) Honest pricing

(b) Quality products and services

(c) Fair treatment of customers

(d) Reasonable profit

(e) Generosity with God's blessings

The Bible does not set a maximum percentage for profit. Instead, it calls Christians to conduct business with integrity, fairness, and love. A business can be highly profitable and still honour God if its success comes through honest work, excellent service, and ethical practices rather than greed or exploitation.
